THE FRENCH CONNECTION!

3:00-6:00 pm
Glen Echo Park
Bumper Car Pavilion
7300 MacArthur Boulevard
Glen Echo, MD

New dancer introductory session at 2:30 pm

Do you ever wonder why we say do-si-do and not back-to-back? What about promenade and allemande? We don’t think about it much, but a lot of our dance moves originally came from France. For centuries, England and France imitated each other’s dance styles, and eventually that mixture ended up here, giving us our contradances (“longways”) and squares (quadrilles).  Come explore these connections, dancing a mixture of contras, singing squares, and dances from France and elsewhere that show evidence of this great cultural exchange.

Susan Taylor, Janine Smith, and Leslie Barr call the figures to music by Leslie Barr (fiddle), Bill Quern (fiddle/banjo/mandolin/melodeon) and Sarah Gowan (guitar).

Cost: $15 cash (preferred) or Venmo at the door, no cards
